A few weeks ago the LRC held a poetry event where a group of year ten students spent of two days taking part in poetry and spoken word workshops, delivered by poet Hussain Manawer. The poetry produced was outstanding and the performances were breathtaking! A selection of the students involved then attended the Word in the West Poetry Slam Competition held in Bristol.
Channon and Kurt took part in a poetry slam competition alongside professional poets and against a selection of South West schools and both performed brilliantly. Channon went on to win the event with her poem “Albatross”. Channon is now the South West’s first Junior Slam Poetry Champion and will be competing in the National Final later this year. Three Hans Price Academy students will be working as Shadow Poets alongside Hussain Manawer, helping to deliver the poetry workshops in Weston over the half term holiday. See the full article here. |
