Over two hundred students left the academy with new books of their own and others had plans about how to spend their token. Students that haven't visited the library for a while came in to ask about books they had heard about during the day and a number of teams successfully completed the World Book Day Detective Trail.
Everyone took part in a quiz designed to celebrate books, understand the benefits of reading and share the books we love. People read aloud from favourite books or books they had chosen their characters from, shared what reading meant to them and showed trailers or recommended books in their lessons.
I was overwhelmed by the effort and enthusiasm that the staff at Hans Price put into supporting World Book Day. There was a real buzz about books and reading throughout the academy and I had such lovely conversations with students about how much they enjoyed the day or how inspired they felt and I heard about so many similar conversations with other members of staff. It was a brilliant celebration of reading!
"I loved getting a free book that I could take home. I didn't expect that!"
"My favourite part was finding out which each teacher was dressed as because it was a mystery until you worked it our or sometimes you saw someone and it was like seeing a character you've always known."
"I liked that the Science teachers wrote Winnie the Pooh quotes on the boards to raise awareness about Mental Health. They were all really good. I got that right in the quiz."
"Seeing all the teachers in costumes was the best bit!"
"My Spanish teacher was dressed as the Very Hungry Caterpillar and we got to listen to it read out in Spanish and that was so good!"
"I liked finding all the clues and reading all the quotes in the different lessons."
"In English we talked about Ms Prescott's costume and all the background of the character and the book. It was really good actually because we had loads of discussions in different lessons about books and the backgrounds of the teachers' costumes."
"There were actually really good books to choose from! I've finished mine and I'm going to swap it with my friend because we got different ones then swap back."
"There were books in the quiz that I knew and I got to tell everyone in my learning family about it and why it was good."
"I loved it."
