On Friday 16th November 23 Hans Price students from years 7 and 8 took part in the Cabot Learning Federation’s first ever Big Charity Read to help raise money for BBC’s Children in Need charity.
Students were sponsored to take part in a whole day of reading from 9:00 in the morning until 14:30 in the afternoon. It was a great way to raise the profile of reading throughout the academy, support literacy and raise money for a worthy cause.
Armed with an array of books, a big jug of orange squash and boosted by overflowing sponsor forms the students launched into the marathon read with a count down to 9 o’clock.
As we counted down the last 30 seconds of reading the 23 tired out students piled up the 64 completed books and various other part read books and celebrated all their hard work. We have worked out that, as a team, students read approximately 13,928 pages!
The concentration level and commitment of all the students taking part was incredible. Thanks to their effort to collect sponsors, the willingness of the Hans Price community and local community to pledge donations to support them and their willpower to last the long day of reading we are expecting to raise over £250! It’s an amazing achievement for all involved.
